Where Do Your Medicinal Mushrooms Come From?
A large majority of mushroom products are readily available online but where do your medicinal mushrooms come from? Most, if not all, companies claim "organic" and that may be true but, is the entire process "organic"?
We pose these questions to find a deeper insight of what you actually are consuming when you buy these products and where it may come from. Turns out, it might not be as clear cut as it should be.
RED FLAGS
- Label only states "Manufactured in the USA", not "Grown in the USA"
- States product is "Sustainably Farmed" but doesn't give any details or farm location
- Product only "Packaged in the USA"
- Who ACTUALLY owns the company?
Many items available on the online market have thousands of positive reviews but they may be misleading those who do not read the details. Images like the one shown above demonstrate how clever labeling can distract from questioning the origin of product. Manufactured certainly DOES NOT mean grown in the USA.
Some of these medicinal mushrooms deals really are too good to be true. Amazing price, the catch? Your mushroom products are not as healthy or pure as advertised.
Who OWNS the Company? Where do your Medicinal Mushrooms come from?
Lets dive deeper into the big players of the mushroom industry. Today we take a look at one of the largest Chinese substrate suppliers, Qihe Biotech. A report by UMDIS Mushroom agency states,
"By 2023, 4 smart factories of Qihe Biotech are put into production, producing 200 million artificial logs annually..." source.
Now. How does that effect us, the consumer?
These companies advertising organic mushrooms products may be owned by Qihe Biotech or another large foreign corporation not listed here. Continuing with this example and a simple google search we find that Qihe Biotech now owns an "American Mushroom Company" called Seven Rivers.
Are these "organic" USA grown and processed substrate logs? Many doubts arise after doing a bit of research.
In fact, Qihe Biotech boasts on their Linkedin bio their control of the market,
" Qihe Biotech export hundreds million of mushroom spawn logs to abroad. has more than 60% share of the spawn substrate market in US. " source.
Makes you wonder how many of these companies we are unknowingly buying from using 'Americanized' branding.
Conclusion
Are you 100% positive you know where your Medicinal Mushrooms come from? If not, its time to start looking for answers.
Don't be fooled by flashy advertisement and labeling. Look for RED FLAGS (listed above) and when in doubt, err on the side of caution.
